The bike was stored for over thirty years and retains all of its original components with exception of the shifters, which I installed to replace the dealer-installed Sun Tour bar end shifters, and Weinmann 700 concave rims that replaced the original 27” tubular rims allowing a wide choice of modern road clinchers. This bike was purchased in April from its original owner who maintained the bike very well. The seller stated he got the bike as a gift from the original owner. I purchased this bike of Craigslist in August 2010. Simplex derailleurs, Weinmann brakes, Stronglight crank, Brooks B15N saddle Supposedly the seller’s father was the original owner and the bike had been hanging in his barn/garage for the past 30+ years. Trim paint has been restored using a paint pen.Ī few weeks ago I purchased a 1972 Raleigh Grand Sports from a gentleman in Rochester (NY) who was selling it on Craigslist. The frame still has original paint with only a few blemishes, those on the fork being covered with Reynolds 531 decals.
Both were replaced with Campagnolo Record. When purchased in an online auction, it had a no-name BB and headset indicating another life as some sort of bike. This frame was the victim of its components having been stripped of them at some time in the past. This is a frame-up build using original specification components that are period/year-correct.
